Snow Season in Switzerland

It’s January!

The winter season is back! If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the beauty of winter, but don’t want to be stuck in the Midwest to do so then you’ve come to the right place. I’m going to give you information on where to travel to during the month of January. To all you snow lovers, Switzerland is just the place for you!

Switzerland is a Central European country known for its mountains, ski resorts, and hiking trails. That’s a lot better than Peoria! The transportation system allows people to easily reach many of the best sites in Switzerland. After a lot of research and looking at great pictures, here are some of the best places that I think are worth seeing:

  • Zermatt

  • St. Moritz

  • Lucerne

Zermatt

Zermatt is a mountain resort known for skiing and snowboarding. One unique thing about Zermatt is that you are able to ski in Cervinia, Italy; many people spend the day there and return back to Switzerland at night. If you skiing isn’t your preferred mode of transportation, worry not because the train ride is an experience worth trying. The train ride to get to Zermatt is one of the most beautiful routes in the world. It goes through the Alps and one of the most famous peaks, Matterhorn. Some places to stay at in Zermatt are: Cervo Mountain Boutique Resort, Hotel Alex, and Riffelalp Resort.

St. Moritz

Saint Moritz is a luxury alpine resort town best known for its nightlife. Similar to Zermatt, St. Moritz is known for skiing and snowboarding. However, traveling by a funicular and cable car to take a look at all the scenery is a pretty cool way as well. Another unique thing to do in St. Moritz is see the Diavolezza. You can visi the Diavolezza through a combination of a train and gondola, which allows you to experience the mountains in a whole new way. There are plenty of other places to go and ski at, and endless ways to get there. St. Moritz also has a very exciting nightlife, there are lots of places to go for adults. Some places to stay at in St. Moritz are: Grand Hotel Des Bains, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, and Kulm Hotel.

Lucerne

Lucerne is the most populated town in Central Switzerland and is best known for its picture perfect views. It’s surrounded by the Swiss Alps, giving you the opportunity to sight see! Lucerne in the winter and summer offer different things, but are still breathtaking nonetheless. If you want to go to the city, be sure to visit the Old Town. The Old Town is free of traffic and has lots of shops and sightseers. Lucerne is also known for the Chapel Bridge, a wooden bridge across the river Reuss; in the winter months it’s less busy. If you’re a chocolate lover, like myself, then you won’t want to miss a chocolate tasting at Max Chocolatier. I mean what could get better than a Swiss chocolate tasting near the Chapel Bridge. You get views and chocolate! Some places you can stay at are: Radisson Blu Hotel, Renaissance Hotel, and Ameron Hotel

Thanks!

I hope after reading about some of these places in Switzerland, you consider planning a trip here soon! Switzerland sure has different views than just the corn and cows Peoria has to offer!
