Hallo Denmark and Germany!

Goodmorning everyone!

We are here in København, Denmark, or as many of us call it: Copenhagen. It’s almost been two weeks since we were in Spain, so hopefully you’ve had time to enjoy all the features on the ship. Now the weather here isn’t as nice as it’s been in Spain, but don’t get me wrong it’s still in the 70’s! The plan for this week is to spend Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday here in Copenhagen and then leave the port in the evening. We’ll arrive in Berlin, Germany in the morning and spend all day there. The weather in Berlin is supposed to be in the mid 70’s. We plan to have everyone back on board by 8 so we can leave for our final destination. I hope everyone has a fun week and I’ll check back soon!

Copenhagen

Hallo and welcome to Denmark’s Copenhagen! Copenhagen has a lot of history and so many unique sights. But don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of history again. When I first arrived here, everything was much different than it is in the U.S. There weren’t many cars on the roads, instead they had separate lanes dedicated to people biking. The whole city in general was super clean. I went to an amusement park called Tivoli Gardens in the afternoon with my family and it was really cool experience. European amusement parks are on a whole new level compared to the ones here! There were lots of rollercoasters, places to eat, and a beautiful garden in Tivoli.

On the second day, we ended up doing a Hop On Hop Off boat and bus tour to see the city. The layout of the city was really cool and all the buildings were a lot more modern looking. We also saw the most iconic landmark there: The Little Mermaid statue. We also passed by the Queen’s winder residence.

The third day was the busiest because we had one major tour planned that wasn’t in the city. We were going to visit the castles in Copenhagen. I learned a lot about the relationship between Sweden and Denmark. All the castles were really old from the inside and out. We visited 3 major castles: The Kronborg Castle, The Frederiksborg Castle, and The Fredensborg Palace.

The Kronborg Castle is home to Shakespeare’s Hamlet and is the most famous castle in Denmark. The Frederiksborg Castle was home to the Danish King Christian IV. Now this place had a LOT of history...I got extremely bored. While I was at this castle, it started to pour. So for the next stop, which was The Fredensborg Palace, I stayed in the heated bus with my mom and let my brother and dad take pictures.

Berlin

Welcome to our next port in...Berlin! Today we will explore the city of Berlin and enjoy some of the cool food here.

Sights and Food The city was split into two major sections, East Berlin and West Berlin. We started off by visiting the City Centre and walking around there for a bit and listening to our tour guide. After that we hopped into a car started driving past some of the sights. We passed by one of the universities here: Humboldt University. It was completely different from the typical American colleges. We then saw the Bebelplatz, which is a large public square in the center of the city. The Gendarmenmarkt was another square we saw in the city. We saw the French Cathedral and then finished the day by seeing a memorial. The memorial was called the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, and in my opinion, was the most breathtaking thing I saw all day. There were thousands of coffin-like pillars on an uneven surface. Each stone was a different shape, size, and position. It was very abstract and open which allowed each person to take their own path and perceive the meaning of the structure.

Since we were only there for one day, I didn’t get to try a bunch of food. However, when we went to a place called Moabiter Werder. I tried a traditional pork dish, a Bratwurst, some potato salad, and a pretzel.

Back on board

Good evening everyone, this is your captain speaking. I hope you’ve enjoyed Denmark and Berlin. Hopefully everyone is back on deck. It will be a while until we reach our next destination!
